SANTA'S SPECTACLES
I tucked myself in, on a cold Christmas Eve,
with three special wishes. “Dear Santa, please leave
a shawl for my mama, new boots for my pa.
For me, I just wish the deep snowdrifts would thaw.”
The next thing I knew, I awoke to the sound
of ring-jingling sleigh bells on snow-covered ground.
I peeked out my window and spied a red glow,
and shadowy figures encircling below.
I dashed down the stairs and fell out the front door.
T’was Santa and Rudolph with reindeer galore!
“I’ve lost my gold spectacles,” Santa exclaimed.
“They fell as we flew o’er your cabin,” he claimed.
I helped the team search in the rosy red glow
of Rudolph’s red schnozzle, alighting the snow.
“I can’t read the names of the good girls and boys.
Oh, what can I do? I’ve a sleighful of toys!”
”I’ll ride along with you! I know how to read!”
I climbed in the sleigh. We took off with great speed.
We flew through the night to each house on the list.
Though tired to the bone, I was glad to assist!
The next thing I knew, I sprang out of my bed
while thoughts of my Santa dream danced in my head.
My pa laced new boots, and my ma draped a shawl.
I opened the door. “The snow's melting, y’all!”
And there on the pathway, gold spectacles lay,
while high in the sky a red sleigh sailed away.
