Write a Valentine's Day story appropriate for children 12 yrs. and under, with a maximum of 214 words in which someone feels curious!
Bitter Sweet
203 Words
A plump choc’late heart
in a candy display
wanted some answers
on Valentine’s day.
Why creamy choc’lates?
Glitter and glue?
Ruby red roses?
The words “I love you”?
A flurry of fingers
soon emptied the shelf,
leaving the heart
sitting all by herself.
A shy little boy,
who thought she was grand,
nervously counted
the coins in his hand.
The heart’s almond center
was touched by the joy
of a tender big spender --
a shy little boy.
He wrapped her in ribbons
and penciled a rhyme:
“My heart beats 4 U.
Please be mine, all the time.”
He settled her down
at the neighbor’s front door,
where she sat on the stoop
for an hour, or more.
The late morning heat
from the sun could be felt.
“My marshmallow nougat
is starting to melt!”
She struggled to holler,
to wriggle and run.
Her choc’latey coating
was coming undone!
The next thing she knew
she was saved by a girl,
who gave her a hug
and a foot-fancy twirl.
The heart learned of love,
angelic and sweet,
from two charming children.
The heart felt complete.
The girl freed the ribbons
that held the heart tight,
then swallowed it whole
in one walloping bite.
